Akatsi South Assembly undertakes road reshaping works

Akatsi (VR), Aug. 22, GNA – The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has intensified sanitation and road development efforts in the municipality as part of measures to improve environmental health and enhance mobility.

Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that upon assumption of office, his immediate priority was to tackle sanitation challenges, particularly heaps of refuse that had accumulated in major parts of the town.

He said it took the Assembly two weeks to clear the refuse, which had overwhelmed the municipal dumpsite.

“Only yesterday we were able to clear additional refuse sites at Esianyokope, Accra Station through to Tatorme, Anyidzime and its environs. The refuse we collected from the Central Market alone was so much that it filled the entire dumpsite, and we had to deploy vehicles to clear it,” he explained.

Mr. Dagba said the exercise formed part of the National Sanitation Day activities, which have been carried out across the municipality. A second cleanup exercise was also undertaken at the Central Market on July 4, 2025, complementing earlier interventions.

On roads, Mr. Dagba disclosed that about 3.9 kilometres of roads have been reshaped in the Municipality as part of efforts to enhance mobility and improve socio-economic activities.

A report from the Feeder Roads Engineer to the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Daniel Dagba, said the works covered six selected roads in the municipality.

They include the stretch between N3 Filling Station and El-Shaddai Warehouse–Mortuary Road (0.5km), Asafokope Junction–Mount Zion School (0.8km), Agbatalikope–Agbedrafor (1.4km), Esianyokope Junction–Esianyokope (0.5km), Anyidzime–Zuta (0.4km), and Alavanyo Junction–Zemu (0.3km).

The report indicated that the road surfaces are in good condition while the drainage structures are functioning effectively.

Mr. Dagba said that the road reshaping formed part of the Assembly’s broader agenda to open up communities and facilitate easy access to markets, schools, and health facilities.

He said the initiative would also boost economic activities, particularly for farmers and traders who depended on the roads to transport foodstuffs and other goods.

â€śThis is only the beginning. We are committed to ensuring that more communities benefit from similar works as we continue to collaborate with our development partners and the central government,” Mr. Dagba stated.

Some residents expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying it had eased transportation challenges in the area.
