Sunyani, (Bono), July 07, GNA – The Bono Regional Office of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is collaborating with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), are working to stem the growing trend of irregular migration in the region.

In that regard, Mr Mustapha Omar Copson, the Bono Regional Director of the YEA told the media at Sunyani that the Agency and the GIZ intended to organise a summit to identify and help tackle the remote cause of irregular migration among young people in the region.

Describing the Bono Region as a “hotspot” for irregular migration in the country, he expressed concern about the dangers the migrants always went through, stressing the need to tackle the causes, to inspire potential migrants to either stay or travel abroad by obtaining the required documents.

He said the summit would further provide guidance to potential migrants in securing proper travel documentation abroad.

“That will help prevent the needless abuses and deaths migrants experience when traveling abroad through the high seas in search of greener pastures,” Mr Copson stated.

“In fact, President John Mahama’s government is critical about the general well-being of the youth,” urging young people to capitalise on the government’s job opportunities to find something worth doing to better their lives.

Mr Copson said the YEA had opened its registration portal for young people with basic Information Technology (IT) to obtain online jobs and work from home and urged those who qualified to apply to (yea.gov.gh) or seek assistance from the Agency.

He said: “The IT is a new game changer, because the services of people with IT background are highly needed across the globe”, saying the government would soon implement the one-million coders training policy for the youth for them to be knowledgeable in software development.

He said the National Apprenticeship Programme designed for skills training would be rolled out soon, with the government providing training tools and startups capital for beneficiaries.

Mr Copson said the training modules covered digital marketing, wig and nails fixing, body makeups, steel bending among others, and advised the youth to register their businesses and capitalise on that opportunity.
