Tarkwa (W/R), July 28, GNA – The Innovative Teacher Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, in collaboration with the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation (GFGF), has organised a programme to inspire young girls to explore and pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Beneficiary schools included girls from Huni-Valley Senior High School (SHS), Fiaseman SHS and Tarkwa SHS in the Prestea Huni-Valley and Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipalities.
It was on the theme: “Inspiring the next generation: STEM career prospects for girls”.
Madam Perpetual Bosomprah, the Founder of Innovative Teacher Foundation, said when she received the National Best SHS Teacher award in 2024, she decided to utilise the platform to support both students and educators.
Madam Bosomprah, who is also an English language teacher at Tarkwa SHS, explained that having her Foundation already in place, enabled her to pursue the initiative smoothly without delays.
She said her intention was to also foster an environment where girls could pursue their passion, whether they aspired to be astronauts, doctors, or engineers, and help them to overcome their fear of mathematics.
“Once she was into the languages, I will assist students in literature studies. A key component of the programme will be a visit to the court, where students can acquire firsthand knowledge of how studying literature can prepare them for roles like lawyers, judges, or court clerks.
“Though I am rooted in language, my goal is to support students across various disciplines, not just humanities,” she added.
Madam Bosomprah thanked the Foundation for sponsoring the programme after approving her proposal.
Some students shared their views with the Ghana News Agency after the programme and thanked the organisers, saying, with the increased opportunities, girls could now thrive in engineering and in other male-dominated fields.
They said former limitations were now avenues for girls to explore, and they would not limit themselves, but instead work on their dreams and ambitions to become better people in society.
A team of professionals, comprising of a lecturer, medical practitioner, mathematician, architect, pharmacist, and software engineer were brought together to educate and motivate the students.
