Fiapre (Bono), July 28, GNA – Mr. Kwasi Asante Boateng, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, has advised Senior High School (SHS) students to remain disciplined and respect teachers and school authorities, describing them as their “life trainers.”
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Odomase Seventh-Day Adventist SHS during a student prefects and church executives’ handover and fundraising event, Mr. Boateng noted that respect for teachers enhances student-teacher relationships and paves the way for academic support.
He said, “Until students accord their teachers due respect and dignity, it will be difficult for them to approach them when they face challenges.”
Highlighting the government’s commitment to equitable education, Mr. Boateng cited policies like the ‘No Fees Stress’ initiative, which aim to ensure all Ghanaian children have access to quality education. He added that teachers are more motivated to serve when respected by their students.
Commending the high discipline at the SDA school, he pledged to support its infrastructure needs.
Earlier, Mr. Abraham Opoku, Headmaster of the school, appealed for the school to be upgraded to boarding status and lamented stalled construction on a 12-unit GETFund classroom block. He called on government, private organizations, the SDA Church, and philanthropists to help resume the project.
The school, established in 2004 with 24 students, currently has 322 students, 53 teachers, and 15 non-teaching staff.
Pastor Joseph Kyeremeh, the school’s chaplain, said the fundraising rally aimed to renovate the school’s Assembly Hall—used as a worship centre—and provide items such as wall fans, pulpits, chairs, and a projector. Proceeds will also support the activities of the Ghana National Association of Adventist Students (GNAAS) on campus.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to several individuals, including the headmaster, chaplain, and past GNAAS executives, for their dedicated service.
