Keta (VR), July 30, GNA – Residents in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have commended MTN Ghana, for their contribution to zero maternal fatality at the Keta Municipal Hospital within the past year starting from July 2024 to July 2025.

The achievement is seen as a great testament to the hard work and dedication of the hospital staff and the administration, as well as the support of various stakeholders, including MTN Ghana.

Madam Senam Aladey, a lactating mother and resident of Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said that the contributions by MTN Ghana to the success of the hospital needed higher recognition and commendation and applaud.

“We all know how MTN Ghana has been instrumental in supporting the hospital’s maternal health initiatives, including the commissioning of the Maternity NICU Complex, which has played a critical role in reducing maternal mortality in the area,” she said.

Madam Aladey said that the well-equipped Maternal and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Complex, commissioned by MTN Ghana Foundation in 2024, had been a game-changer for the hospital in contributing to no maternal death in the communities.

She said the facility provided critical care to newborns and mothers, and helped reduce the risk of complications and mortality and that the MTN Ghana investment in the facility had undoubtedly contributed to the success of the hospital.

Mr George Mensah, another resident told the GNA that the achievements of Keta Municipal Hospital over the last one year without any maternal death was a significant step towards reducing maternal mortality in the area.

“This milestone demonstrate the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality maternal healthcare and its dedication to saving lives, all thanks to MTN Ghana for the great initiative.”

Dr Martha Ampadu, the Obstetrician Gynecology and Head of Department at Keta Municipal Hospital Maternity and NICU, in an earlier interview with GNA, said that MTN Ghana deserved to be commended for its role in supporting the hospital’s maternal health initiatives.

She explained that the company’s contribution has had a tangible impact on the lives of women and children in the area, and its commitment to improving healthcare outcomes was truly commendable.

She said the impact of MTN Ghana contribution had extended beyond the walls of the hospital with an increased number in patients attendance.

She said its investment in maternal healthcare had also helped to improve the overall health and well-being of the community, particularly women and children in improving on healthier and more productive society.

Mr Faruk Iddrisu, the Administrator at Keta Municipality hospital, said that the success of the hospital was highly powered by the partnership and support of MTN Ghana, combined with dedication of hard work of staff, which resulted in a significant achievement that benefits the entire community.

He said the achievement of Keta Municipal Hospital within one year without any maternal deaths was a significant milestone, but was not a reason to rest on its laurels.

Therefore, the hospital and the partners, including MTN, would continue to work together to ensure the sustainability and plan for future initiatives that would further improve maternal healthcare outcomes and others.

He said that as the hospital continues to strive for excellence in maternal and other healthcare delivery, it was hopeful that other organisations would follow MTN Ghana’s example and support initiatives that would benefit the community at all levels.

Other information gathered by the GNA revealed that MTN Ghana spent about GH₵ 19 million in building a state-of-the-art 60 bed maternity and child health block at the Keta Municipal hospital and was commissioned in 2024 to reduce neonatal maternity rate.
