Ho (V/R), July 1, GNA – Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has announced the receipt of a GHC100,000 donation from the National Lottery Authority (NLA), through its Good Causes Foundation, to aid victims affected by recent tidal waves that devastated parts of the region’s coastline.

The donation, according to Mr Gunu, comes at a critical time, offering much-needed relief to displaced families in the hardest-hit communities of Agavedzi, Asalakope, and Amutsinu.

“This generous support is timely and deeply appreciated,” the Minister stated. “NLA is among the first institutions to respond to our appeal for help, and this act of solidarity speaks volumes about their commitment to national service beyond their core mandate.”

He said that the funds will be directed toward emergency relief efforts, including the provision of shelter, food, and clothing for affected residents as many families have been forced to evacuate their homes following the tidal surges that caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure in the coastal belt.

Mr. Gunu extended his gratitude on behalf of the people of the Volta Region, particularly to the Director-General of the NLA, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, for the Authority’s swift and compassionate response.

“We remain united in rebuilding lives and restoring hope,” the Regional Minister added.

The Volta Region has experienced recurring tidal waves in recent years, prompting calls for long-term interventions to protect vulnerable coastal communities. The donation from NLA is expected to offer immediate relief as authorities and stakeholders continue efforts toward recovery and resilience building.
