Accra, July 17, GNA – The Ketu Divisional Police Command on has organized a forum to educate long distance drivers on safety and crime at Aflao.

The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Odame said, it was organized with the assistance of ASP. James Anaman, Ketu Divisional MTTD Commander, and ASP Ibrahim Suleman, Aflao SWAT detachment Commander.

The forum drew together drivers from all the Drivers Unions in Aflao, including GPRTU, PROTOA, STC, VIP and others.

Among the participants were Mr. Michael Klutsey, chairman of Aflao GPRTU branch, Mr. Cephas Exe PROTOA Secretary, Mr. Winfred Mensah, District Manager of STC, Mr. Bright Dogbey, District Manager of Metro Mass Transit among others.

The Divisional Commander reminded that security was a shared responsibility and told the gathering that the Police had tried several methods to protect businessmen and women who travel through Aflao to Togo against fraudsters and other criminals but not achieved the desired results.

He added it was because businessmen and women continued to be lured b criminals into obscured places under the guise of assisting them to cross the boarder but eofed up either defrauding or attacking them for money.

The Divisional Commander therefore appealed to them that anytime they load from other cities to Aflao, before they begin the journey they should inform all passengers in the vehicle not to deal with anyone upon reaching Aflao, but to walk straight to the main border which is just about 150 metres from the lorry station and deal with Immigration and Custom officers in uniform.

They should also inform the passengers that it was a simple, painless friendly process they would go through to facilitate their entry into the Republic of Togo and would not need any assistance from anyone who in most cases are criminals.

The Divisional Commander also spoke to them about the dangers involved in speeding, wrongful overtaking, using unapproved lighting system, driving through red lights among others.

Later members were given opportunity to ask questions which were all answered.
