Gov’t urged to leverage vast tourism potential to address economic challenges

Nkawie, (Ash), July 15, GNA – A hospitality consultant has appealed to the government and other key stakeholders to harness the vast potential in the tourism sector as a strategic tool not only to create employment, but also address economic challenges facing the nation.

Mr. Tony Lassey, speaking at a media engagement at Nkawie, pointed out that, tourism was the most accessible and effective avenue for attracting both local and international investments.

It was therefore important for policymakers to develop and implement sustainable tourism strategies that would position Ghana as a top destination on the African continent.

“We cannot survive as a country without paying critical attention to our economy,” he said, stressing the urgent need for innovative approaches to economic recovery.

Mr. Lassey emphasized that tourism did not only served as a source of revenue generation, but also had the capacity to create jobs, promote local culture, and open up rural communities to development opportunities.

He encouraged local and foreign investors to consider Ghana as a viable investment destination, citing the country’s long-standing reputation as one of the most peaceful nations in the world.

“Ghana remains one of the most peaceful countries globally.

This alone should give investors the confidence to do business here,” he added.

Mr Lassey stressed the need for Ghanaians to show interest and patronize local tourism sites as part of efforts to promote the hospitality industry in Ghana.

The call comes at a time when Ghana, like many other countries, is grappling with economic difficulties.

Stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sectors have long advocated for increased government attention and funding to unlock the sector’s full potential.
