Accra, July 15, GNA – Ghana will host the 2025 West Africa Medical and Health Industry Expo and AI Diagnosis Deployment Summit in August, as part of a regional initiative spearheaded by the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWA) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
This is being organised in collaboration with Chinese medical entrepreneurs and businesses.
The event, scheduled for August 20–22 at the Accra International Conference Centre, is expected to convene more than 500 hospitals and clinics, 1,500 merchants and stakeholders, and delegations from all 16 ECOWAS member states.
Organised by HCOWA and GHS, the summit will feature over 100 Chinese medical enterprises participating as business partners to promote health innovation, investment, and collaboration.
Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, said the expo aligns with Ghana’s goal of deepening healthcare partnerships and accelerating digital health transformation.
He said the summit would host thematic forums on cancer care, eye care, dialysis treatment, and the application of artificial intelligence in traditional Chinese medicine.
Prof Akoriyea stated that the Ghana Health Service would leverage the platform to attract partnerships for establishing AI-based treatment centres nationwide, while expanding access to surgical tools, pharmaceuticals, and training for health professionals through public-private collaboration.
The event will be held under the theme: “Focusing on Supply-Demand Cooperation to Promote the Integrated Development of the China-Africa Health Industry.”

Mr Prince Opoku Dogbey, Vice President of HCOWA, said the summit would highlight advanced medical equipment, AI-supported diagnostics and treatment, and improved healthcare delivery systems across the region.
“This will be achieved through the provision of advanced medical equipment, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnostics and treatment, and the enhancement of healthcare delivery and patient outcomes across the region,” he said.
Mr Dogbey added that the event would adopt a hybrid format – blending physical and virtual participation – to encourage investment, trade, technology transfer, and academic exchange.
He said the expo also seeks to encourage Chinese enterprises to set up manufacturing plants in Ghana, positioning the country as a hub for regional health production and distribution.
Madam Enla Fees, Director of Global Health Stakeholder Engagement at Qure.ai, said her organisation remains committed to strengthening Ghana’s health system.
“We are using AI for X-ray screening to detect the approximately 50 per cent of tuberculosis cases assumed to be asymptomatic, which must not be missed to help eliminate TB in Ghana,” she said.
Madam Fees noted that Qure.ai is helping to reach underserved patients with frontline AI technologies aimed at enhancing equity and multi-disease screening.
