Accra, 17 July, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reinstated Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all Senior High, Technical, and Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Schools, with immediate effect.
A statement issued by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, announced the directive in line with instructions from President John Dramani Mahama.
Accordingly, the GES management has directed all heads of affected schools to implement the directive at once.
“This move is aimed at strengthening the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities, and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners,” the statement said.
It said further guidance outlining PTA structures, roles, and financial accountability mechanisms would be issued in due course.
“These measures are intended to promote transparency, uniformity and efficiency in the operations of PTAs nationwide.”
The GES said it counted on the support of stakeholders to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the important policy.
PTAs were previously scaled back in 2019 following the introduction of Free Senior High School, amid reports of misuse of the system by some school heads.
The original purpose of PTAs was to foster collaboration between parents and educators through activities, communication, and fundraising to support school needs.
