Tema, July 06, GNA – The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), has held its 31st National Delegates Conference in Tema with a call on presbyters to foster unity for national development.Â
The conference was on the theme: “Care for Creation: The Role of the Presbyter as a Stakeholder in National Development.”
Dr Anthony Mawutor Atsu, the National President of the Presbyters’ Union, emphasized that presbyters have a divine and constitutional mandate to promote national development by protecting God’s creation, ensuring church accountability, and supporting the welfare of members.
He stated that creation included not only land, water bodies, and forests, but most importantly, human beings, stressing that caring for the church’s agents and members welfare was paramount to the task.
He cited an incident involving a church agent who suffered a serious accident after being transferred to a remote area despite health concerns, describing it as a wake-up call for better transfer policies and pastoral care in the church.
The national presbyter’s president further used the occasion to highlight the Union’s achievements, including virtual NEC meetings, conflict resolution in the Dayi Presbytery, and the formation of an endowment fund to support brilliant but needy students and deprived congregations.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, on the sidelines of the event, Right Reverend Dr (Lt Col) Devine Kofi Agbeko (Rtd), Moderator of the General Assembly of the EPCG, commended the presbyters for their role in national development through health, education, and rural outreach, encouraging them to lead by example and be active contributors to environmental preservation.
He said the presbyters must at all times be a shining example for others to emulate, not only in the churches but within the various communities they reside in.
He further called on stakeholders to formulate policies that would preserve Ghana’s natural resources for the benefit of all citizens and not for some selected few.
The four-day conference brought together over 100 delegates from across the country and the diaspora, and called on the presbyters to be stewards and have a renewed sense of mission in supporting both spiritual growth and national transformation.
