Accra, July 18, GNA – Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has pledged to complete all abandoned military housing projects and initiate new ones to address the accommodation shortfall within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
During his maiden working visit to 1 Garrison, Dr Boamah underscored the urgency of resolving the housing deficit to enhance operational efficiency and readiness.
“I will ensure that these structures are completed before new ones are began to solve the housing crises and enhance faster deployments in times of emergencies,” he noted.
His comments followed a briefing and inspection of stalled housing units near the Naval Base, accompanied by Commodore Solomon Asiedu Larbi, Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command.
The Minister undertook a tour of key installations, including the Eastern Naval Command, One Battalion of Infantry (1BN) at Michel Camp, and the Army Recruit Training School (ARTS), where he was briefed on logistical and infrastructural challenges.

At ARTS, Brigadier-General Joshua Amanor, Commander of the Army Training Command, expressed concern over training limitations:
“These days, we have to go very far to conduct our exercises. This puts a lot of pressure on our transport logistics.”
Following the tour, Dr Boamah announced that the government, under President John Mahama, had committed up to $1 billion to boost the military’s operational capacity.
“We are confident that with your expertise, dedication, and training, and President Mahama’s vision of equipping the Ghana Armed Forces with up to $1 billion, we will be able to keep our nation safe,” he said.
