Sunyani (Bono), May 6, GNA – Enterprise Group PLC, a leading insurance, pensions, and real estate solutions provider, has inaugurated a newly constructed Reproductive and Child Health and Family Planning Unit at the Sunyani Municipal Hospital.
The company constructed the facility at a cost of GH¢2.4 million as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Programme to strengthen healthcare delivery services.
The facility has offices for staff, standard washrooms, a waiting area, a child bathing space, and a cold room for vaccine storage. It is fully furnished with the required medical equipment.
Designed to enhance maternal and child health services, the facility will improve family planning performance, immunisation, and nutrition services, as well as child health promotion and monitoring.
In addition to the infrastructure, Enterprise Group has fully equipped the facility with the necessary medical equipment.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Sunyani, Mr Mike Tyson, Chief Finance Officer of Enterprise Group PLC, noted that although the nation has made significant progress in maternal and child health over the years, peculiar challenges still persist.
“Many mothers still face difficult conditions in accessing maternity facilities due to growing overcrowding, inadequate equipment, and ageing infrastructure,” he stated.
Mr Tyson explained that the construction of the facility involved the demolition of an old dilapidated maternity block, adding that the new block would help the hospital meet required standards.
He said the company’s intervention reflects its dedication to supporting communities and improving health outcomes in general. “Every mother deserves safe and dignified childbirth, and every child deserves a strong start to life,” he added.
Mr Tyson urged the hospital to maintain the facility to ensure it continuously benefits present and future generations, and encouraged health workers to take proper care of the equipment.
Mr Kwadwo Nini Owusu, Managing Director of Enterprise Properties, said the facility was designed and constructed in line with Ghana Health Service protocols and standards.
“This is a meaningful investment that will improve access to essential health services, particularly for mothers, infants, and young children,” he stated.
Dr Richard Adinkrah-Kyeremeh, Sunyani Municipal Director of Health, said the hospital was established nearly a century ago and expressed concern about limited infrastructure expansion despite evolving healthcare demands.
He said the new block would significantly improve service delivery and advance healthcare delivery services, and thanked the company for the gesture, pledging to maintain it.
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, said the facility was timely and would be beneficial to the people, and called on the public and health workers to take ownership and properly maintain it.
