Ashanti Regional Police Command investigates fatal shooting incident at Asawase

Kumasi, July 23, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command, has launched a full-scale investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Asawase F-Line, a suburb of Kumasi.

According to a police press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a middle-aged man, was attacked and shot at close range by two unidentified gunmen riding separate motorbikes.

The assailants, believed to have been armed with an AK-47 rifle, reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving behind two spent shells, which were later recovered and documented by the police.

The victim was initially rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he was pronounced dead.

His body has since been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.

Following the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, together with the Regional Crime Officer, ACP Ebenezer Boyor, and a team of investigators visited the crime scene to assess the situation and coordinate further investigative measures.

The Regional Police Command has assured the public that all necessary efforts were being made to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of what it described as a “heinous crime.”

In the meantime, the public is being urged to remain calm and assist the police by volunteering any information that could aid in the arrest of the suspects.
