Kiev, Nov 7. (dpa/GNA) – Russian forces have launched fresh missile strikes on Kiev and the surrounding region, with more than a dozen explosions heard in the Ukrainian capital.
“The enemy is striking infrastructure facilities with ballistic missiles,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram early on Saturday, reporting explosions in the suburbs.
The attack came in several waves. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. According to the Ukrainian air force and observers close to the military, the strikes targeted thermal power plants in and south of Kiev, as well as an electricity substation west of the capital.
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, had warned shortly before the attack of fresh Russian strikes on energy facilities and bridges across the Dnipro River.
Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in recent weeks, particularly around Kiev, leaving millions of people facing hours-long power cuts and disruptions to water supplies and heating.
