Berlin, Nov 7. (dpa/GNA) – A man is alleged to have doused an 18-year-old with a flammable liquid, and set him alight in south-west Berlin.
The victim was taken to hospital with burns, the police in the German capital said in a statement issued on Saturday.
The 18-year-old man was out on Friday evening with a 17-year-old female companion. An argument broke out with the suspect, a 24-year-old, who is alleged to have sexually harassed the woman.
According to reports, the 24-year-old is alleged to have poured a flammable liquid over the younger man and set him alight.
The police were initially unable to say how the fire was extinguished. “He was wearing a jacket,” said a police spokesman.
Emergency services were called and took the 18-year-old to hospital with burns to one hand and his torso.
Police arrested the suspected perpetrator nearby. He is due to appear before a magistrate on Saturday afternoon, who will decide whether to remand him in custody, the statement added.
