Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council calls on Municipal Security to halt Agona Abodom’s Akwambo festival celebration

By James Esuon

Nyakrom (C/R) July 24, GNA-The Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council, has asked the Agona West Municipal Security Council to halt the upcoming Akwambo festival of chiefs and people of Agona Abodom, which comes off in August this year to avert clash and bloodshed.

According to President of the Council, Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, the chieftaincy issues at Abodom still rages on and it was risky for the town to celebrate the festival.

Okofo Eku who made the appeal at the first Traditional Council meeting at Nyakrom, cautioned that the Asafo Companies of Nyakrom Traditional Area had the power to halt Mr Kwesi Gyan who claim to be chief to preside over the festival.

However, the Overlord of Agonaman said the council respected the rule of law and would not take the law into its own hands to cause mayhem and bloodshed.

He said the judicial committee of the Traditional Council had sat many times over the Abodom case to resolve it amicably, but Mr Gyan who claimed to be chief, and his heads of family have refused to appear before the committee for adjudication of the case.

Okofo Eku, therefore, appealed to the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom who was present at the meeting to marshal forces as chairman of Agona West Security Council to halt the alleged chief and his people at Abodom.

He further admonished the heads of family, king makers and many others to ensure that tradition and customs of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area was not compromised.

He called for peace and unity among the chiefs and the people of the area, adding that the doors of the council was always opened for consultations and advice to help to move Agonanman forward.

The Omanhene said the chiefs and the people of Agona West were behind the MCE and urged him to ensure that the area became one of the best in the region.

At the meeting, nana Egyima Yeboah II, Adontenhemaa of Asona Royal family of Upper Bobikuma was introduced to the Omanhene, Okofo Eku and his elders.

Similarly, Nana Adoma Dampoh II, Adontenhemaa of Twidan No2 Royal Family of Agona Kwaman was also introduced.

Nana Amoah Sekyi II, Benkumhene of Agona Kwaman who spoke on behalf of Nana Opaaku Yeboah VI, the chief of Kwaman, called on the new Queen mothers who were admitted into the council to champion the course of young girls in the area.

The Benkumhene urged them to take serious view about the upsurge of teen pregnancy cases and school dropouts among school girls.

Nana Amoah Sekyi reiterated calls on the new Queen mothers to as a matter of urgency, collaborate with Girl child officers of the various schools in Agona West to organise programmes to educate girls on the importance of education and the need to pursue it to the highest level.
