Accra, June 17, GNA – The Seventh-day Adventist Church has laid a foundation stone for the first-ever Seventh-day Adventist police church in the country at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

The church building, per its design has the base, which will have offices, washrooms and sitting areas; a first floor which will be the main church auditorium for church services and a gallery.

Its total cost would be GHS 4.5 million after 18 months of completion with a sitting capacity of the church auditorium being 900 and the gallery 400, making it a 1300 church capacity building.

The goal of having the church stemmed from after the induction of the first Adventist pastor in the police chaplaincy in 2023, where the Ghana Police Service saw the need to give a portion of land at the National Police Training School to build a befitting place for Adventist worshippers.

Pastor Dr Thomas Techie Ocran, President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference of the SDA Church, commended the police administration for the gesture and encouraged all Adventists and the public to contribute to the building project.

He said worshippers, mostly police personnel, also faced challenges and it was proper and important to provide a place of worship to support their spiritual well-being.

DCOP Very Rev, Fr, George Arthur, Chaplaincy General of the Ghana Police Service said the Police Service was committed to the welfare of its officers, both physically and spiritually, calling on all believers to support the project.

He said he looked forward to seeing the completion of the first Adventist Police Church in Ghana, adding that “we are all praying together that the good work God has began today will be completed and so let’s continue to work as a team.”

ASP Samuel Danso Marfo, Pastor in charge of the Police Depot SDA Church, said the Church when completed would provide a space for police recruits and church members to worship and find comfort.

“This church building will be completed to the Glory of God and it will bring hope and inspiration to the police administration and the community at large,” he said.

There was a fundraising exercise which saw members and well-wishers made some financial donations. Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Presidential Aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), through a representative donated GHS 3,000

The Accra City Conference of the SDA is committed to seeing the project through and the Accra Newtown District of the Church is supporting the church project.
