Sunyani, (Bono), June 10, GNA-The number of girls writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Bono Region outnumber the boys, statistics from the Bono Regional Directorate of Education has revealed.

Mr Luke Mensah, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES) who revealed the figures said a total of 24,109 candidates, comprising 12,345 girls and 11,774 boys were writing the examination.

They are drawn from 805 Junior High Schools, comprising 243 public schools and 562 private schools.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Mensah said the candidates were writing the BECE at 84 centers, spread across the region, with 95 supervisors and 802 invigilators.

Comparatively, he said registered figures from the WAEC showed that 24,170 candidates were writing the BECE in the region, saying the “variation is because WEAC registered other candidates from the bolter homes, prisons and the Complimentary Education Agency”.

Mr Mensah advised the candidates to comply with laid down rules and regulations governing the BECE in order not to find trouble for themselves, warning that examination malpractices could lead to withholding or cancellation of their results.
