Hohoe Assembly to implement programmes for economic growth, empowerment – MCE

By Edward Williams

Hohoe (V/R), June 6, GNA–Mr Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), says the Assembly will implement programmes that will directly touch base with the people, bringing the much-needed economic growth and empowerment to residents.

He said the implementation would fall within the larger scheme of the President’s “Reset Ghana Agenda,” adding that it was his expectation that various measures would be put in place to change the corporate image of the Assembly.

Mr Kumi in his first sessional address at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the ninth Assembly, said for the 2025 fiscal year, the Assembly had planned to implement 91 programmes and projects with 67 of them representing 74 per cent currently ongoing and at various stages.

The theme for the meeting was: “Resetting for Development of Hohoe”.

Mr Kumi said for the “Urban Development Grant 3, 4 and 5 (UDG) projects,” the Assembly budgeted for GH¢32,228,436.53 but received GH¢300,000.00 representing three per cent as of April 30, 2025.

He said upon assumption of duty, he took keen interest in revenue mobilisation due to concerns over low revenue of the Assembly against the huge backlog of bills and outstanding debts.

“I am glad to inform you that serious steps are being taken to change the narrative, which is yielding results as we speak. I wish therefore to urge all Assembly Members to get personally involved in the revenue drive to make the exercise a successful one.”

Mr Kumi said the socio-economic development of the Municipality was heavily dependent on agricultural activities hence the Assembly would continue to support and collaborate with the Department of Agriculture to roll out initiatives and programmes that would promote agricultural activities within the Municipality, all aiming and working towards food sufficiency.

He said the Department had made necessary arrangement and would soon receive 891 bags of seed rice from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the distribution to farmers in July 2025, adding that efforts were underway for receipt and distribution of liquid organic fertilizer to vegetable farmers.

Mr Kumi said the Assembly took note of key challenges confronting health services delivery in the Municipality including the lack of critical resources at various health centres and the need for renovation and retooling of some of the health centres, which would be addressed soon.

He said the Assembly had chalked significant success in 2024 for the promotion of water and sanitation service delivery by drilling and rehabilitating boreholes in selected communities to improve access to water.

Mr Kumi said the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Assembly had so far inspected about 1,153 dwelling houses during which they recorded 786 houses had varied nuisances.

He said some projects being implemented under the Urban Development Grant 3, 4 and 5 projects included the construction of 32-Unit lockable stores at the Hohoe Central Market currently about 73 per cent completed and ongoing, construction of 1.0km bitumen surface urban roads with U-drains on both sides about 63 per cent completed and ongoing, as well as the construction of 900m reinforced concrete storm drains with pedestrian bridges and guard rails being 61 per cent completed and still ongoing.
