GJA Elections Calendar Under Review After Petitions, Withdrawal

By Eric Appah Marfo

Accra, June 7, GNA – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee is reviewing the election calendar for its upcoming national and regional polls.

The elections were originally scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.

The review follows petitions challenging the eligibility of some aspirants and the withdrawal of a Vice-Chairmanship candidate in the Volta Region.

A statement issued by the Committee on Saturday said the concerns were being investigated in line with GJA’s electoral guidelines.

“According to the original calendar, the outcome of the vetting process was expected to be published on Friday.

“However, the Committee has received a number of petitions challenging the eligibility of some candidates, which it is carefully reviewing and investigating,” the statement said.

It added that the withdrawal in the Volta Region made it necessary to re-open nominations for the position.

“In light of these developments, critical electoral activities such as balloting for positions and other scheduled steps in the election process must be revised to ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance with the Association’s electoral guidelines,”the Committee said.

It assured members that a revised calendar would be published soon.

“We thank all members for their patience and continued support as we work to uphold the integrity of the GJA electoral process,”the statement said.
