Accra, May 27, GNA – Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has called on Ghanaians to uphold religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence as the country marks Eid-ul-Adha.

Speaking on the occasion of the Islamic festival in a video shared with the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, Mr Ibrahim urged citizens to come together in unity and reflect the values that defined Ghana’s social fabric.

“Let us peacefully coexist together to signify the beauty of Ghana,” he said.

Mr Ibrahim, who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Banda Constituency, highlighted Ghana’s reputation for cultural, religious, political, ethnic and economic tolerance.

He said the country continued to showcase a culture that other nations admired and envied and encouraged Ghanaians to preserve it through mutual respect and harmony during the celebrations and beyond.

He, on behalf of the President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina, the National Executive Council of the ruling NDC and the NDC party, wished Muslims a happy celebration.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed annually by Muslims worldwide to honor the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.
