Assin Bereku (C/R), June 20, GNA- Mr Sylvester Anokye, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin North District of the Central Region, has admonished graduates of the just ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to be disciplined to have a smooth transition to the Senior High Schools (SHS).
He made these remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Assin Bereku, the district capital.
The DCE urged the fresh graduates against indulging in acts that could jeopardise their future.
They should know that BECE was a stepping stone to a brighter future.
He urged them to seek appropriate guidance on what subjects they enjoyed most and careers that align with them, to enable them to decide whether to go to SHS or technical school.
He also urged them to pursue something they loved and genuinely care about for them to excel and find fulfilment in their work.
He suggested that students must be given the autonomy to choose their preferred areas of learning to empower them to take ownership of their education and set themselves up for success.
He asked parents and guardians to be guided by their ward’s passion and not their own ambition or ego.
Again, he charged the students to believe in themselves and prepare psychologically to face the future ahead with its uncertainties in SHS.
He further told them not to doubt their abilities as the following words of former US President Theodore Roosevelt “Believe you can, and you are halfway there” could be a source of encouragement.
As the students advanced, the DCE said they needed to believe in their capabilities regardless of their BECE results and that failure is not fatal, but the ability to continue that mattered
Mr Amakye said while waiting their results, they should have the nation at heart, as to what they can do to serve the nation; they must do that devoid of religious, ethnic and political differences and put together their varied but unique talents and skills as tool to work for their nation.
He admonished them to be disciplined and eschew bad company, drug abuse, premarital sex, alcoholism, armed robbery, fraud and others.
