Sefwi-Wiawso (WN/R), May 26, GNA – Transport operators in the Western North Region have complied with the 15 per cent reduction in fares directive for commuters.

Though the directive took effect on Saturday, May 24, 2025, nationwide, those in Western North Region started the reduction on Monday, May 26.

This, according to the leadership, was to further engage major stakeholders within the region on the modalities for reduction.

Mr Kwasi Manu, Wiawso Vice Station Master, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that from Wiawso to Asawinso which used to be GHC30 was now GHC25, Wiawso to Akontombra and Bodi had been reduced from GHC40 to GHC35 respectively.

Other stations had also reduced their prices of transportation fares within the entire Western North Region.

Some drivers in an interview with the GNA said they would comply with the directive but called on the government and other major stakeholders to ensure the reduction of vehicle parts at the various mechanic shops.

“If fuel is reduced and prices of spares parts continues to increase it would negatively affect us transport operators,” they said.

Some passengers at the Wiawso main lorry station lauded the government and GPRTU for the reduction in transport fares, however, they expected similar reduction in the prices of essential commodities such as food.
