Tema, May 21, GNA – The Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate, HIV/TB Unit, has held a review meeting for HIV cadres in the metropolis to share best practices to enhance care.
The meeting, which was also participated in by stakeholders including healthcare and administrative staff, was aimed at facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing on best practices to enhance the quality of care provided to HIV patients.
It also allows participants to have structured discussions focused on evaluating various aspects of health and wellness within a given context, such as the workplace, community or specific health programme.
Madam Joanna Anorkor Lartey, Tema Metro HIV/TB Coordinator, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the meeting was used to assess health outcomes and develop strategies for health promotion and disease prevention.
Madam Lartey added that it presented the platform for the discussion of challenges and areas of improvement in HIV/AIDS management and solutions, in addition to strategies to help
reduce the defaulter rate among newly enrolled People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and those already established on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).
The cadres also discussed their roles in effective and efficient client management.
Participants were drawn from both the private and public facilities within the metropolis as well as representatives from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the HIV/AIDS self-testing ambassador for Tema.
Madam Lartey stated that challenges identified included lack of collaboration between staff who care for HIV patients and HIV cadres creating a hindrance to the full scope of work of the various cadres.
Other challenges are the lack of privacy, especially in private facilities for the various cadres to carry out their activities.
The HIV/AIDS coordinator encouraged all staff at the ART units to effectively collaborate with all cadres to promote effective client management while urging facility heads in private facilities to provide a suitable area for cadres to carry out their daily activities.
