Accra, Aug. 14, (Sputnik/GNA) ā An international literary competition seeking to identify Russian-language writers from different parts of the world, including Africa, Asia and Latin America, has opened for submissions.
The competition, dubbed: āRussky Glagolā, is bringing together writers, poets, playwrights and translators, with applicants invited to submit works regardless of their country of residence or level of proficiency in the Russian language.
Oleg Ozerov, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova and curator of the competition from the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Sputnik that the initiative was intended to encourage interest in Russian literature and language, particularly among young people.
He said his visits to Africa had shown him what he described as growing interest among young people in the Russian language, as well as Russian culture and literature.
āHaving visited Africa on numerous occasions, I have noticed that young people’s interest in the Russian language – not only in Sub-Saharan Africa but also in North, Arab Africa – is steadily growing today,ā he said.
Mr Ozerov said the competition could provide an additional opportunity for young Africans interested in Russian literature and language to develop their writing and participate in an international literary platform.
He encouraged people with varying levels of Russian-language proficiency to submit their works, including poetry and short stories.
Submissions opened on July 10 and are scheduled to close on September 10, 2026, although the organisers may extend the deadline.
The competition is expected to conclude on November 26, when successful entrants will be invited to an awards ceremony in Moscow.
āRussky Glagolā is supported by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the Union of Writers of Russia.
Applications can be submitted through the competitionās website or by email at [email protected].
