Akyem-Osino, May 24, GNA-Care for Society Network International (CfSNI), a non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has resourced the Amoatia Ofori Panin Model Junior High School Library at Osino, to improve reading habits of the students.
The CfSNI stocked the library, which was underutilised due to lack of reading materials, students’ limited access to books and educational materials needed.
The initiative forms part of the NGOs flagship project “Yen Anidaso” Club of Readers (YACoR) which are formed in schools to promote education, mentorship, and personal empowerment in rural Ghana.
Mrs Anita Ampofoa Amoako-Gyimah, Executive Director of CfSNI described the gesture as a bold stride to ignite a culture of literacy and learning among school children emphasising the critical role of reading and mentorship in education.
She said the reading club was a deliberate response to an urgent need to address a gap in education in the community adding, “we are not just placing books on a shelf, but we are placing hope into the hands of children.”
The Executive Director explained that the formation of the reading club and resourcing the library project aimed to foster consistent reading habits, critical thinking and writing skills among students, especially those in underserved communities and hoped that the intervention would help the children explore the opportunities in reading.
The CfSNI’s mission aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), promoting growth mindsets and nurturing potential through volunteerism and mentorship.
Ms Melody Davies, Headmistress of the school, expressed profound appreciation on behalf of staff and students for the gesture noting that it would have maximum impact on the schoolchildren.
