Tema, May 07, GNA – The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has welcomed the launch of the Code of Conduct for public officials and government appointees by President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Samuel Harrison-Cudjoe, the Programmes Officer, GACC, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the initiative reflects a renewed commitment to promoting integrity and ethical governance within the public service.

Mr. Harrison-Cudjoe said the (GACC) welcomes the launch of the Code of Conduct by President John Dramani Mahama as a commendable step towards regulating the conduct of public officials, particularly his appointees.”

He said however, that while this development was encouraging the long-term sustainability of such measures could only be assured through the enactment of the Conduct of Public Officers (CoPO) law.

He said the passage of this legislation would provide a comprehensive legal framework to hold all public officers accountable beyond the tenure of any single administration.

“We therefore call on President Mahama to prioritise the passage of the CoPO Bill into law as a legacy of enduring governance reform,” he said.

The Code of Conduct spells out rules for government appointees on ethical behaviour, public accountability, and misuse of office.

Among its provisions are the prohibition of appointees from accepting gifts above the value of 20,000 cedis and the buying of state assets, among others.
