Anlo-Afiadenyigba (VR), May 16, GNA – Mr Hope Gadeto, a 44-year-old fisherman at Anlo-Afiadenyigba in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, is appealing to the public for support to raise an amount of GH₵20,000 for a surgery.
Mr Gadeto has been battling breast cancer for over 10 years and was recently referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Mr. Gadeto, in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency, said his breast cancer journey began in 2017, when he woke up one morning with pains in his left breast and despite visiting several hospitals the needed relief was not received to alleviate the pains.
“The cancer wound oozes large amounts of blood daily, and l lose a lot of blood and experience severe pain daily, l am in urgent need of support from doctors to perform the surgery on me, am dying slowly,” he cried.
He explained that the cost of dressing the wound at hospital, and buying bandages has a significant burden on him with an estimated amount ranging between GH₵40-50 spent daily, while having no wife or children, but a relative was taking care of him and struggling to cope with the financial demands of the treatments.
Mr Gadeto is appealing to individuals, companies, philanthropists, and well-wishers to support him in raising the GH₵20,000 needed for the surgery “The recent referral to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment has created psychological effect on me and my family.”

Madam Madam Gifty Ami Yamenui, the sister of the patient also made an emotional appeal, citing the pain and suffering her brother endured daily, which called for attention to save his life.
According to the referral letter the GNA received from the Anlo-Afiadenyigba Health Centre, Mr Gadeto’s condition was diagnosed as “left breast infiltration ductal carcinoma with a discharge at the site of the wound dressing after post mastectomy and required urgent surgical attention to prevent the cancer from spreading to other parts of the body.”
The letter further described the complaints of the patient as painful and discharge at the site of the mastectomy which demanded surgery and if Mr Gadeto did not undergo surgery within a few months, the breast cancer could spread to his heart, lungs, and liver, which could be fatal.
The family said those willing to support Mr Gadeto could do so through the mobile money number (momo) 0243629553 with the account name as Gifty Ami Yamenui or contact the
family at Anlo-Afiadenyigba with any assistance, which would go a long way in helping he patient to undergo the necessary treatment to improve his chances of survival.
