Dormaa-Ahenkro (Bono), Sept. 2, GNA – Mr Dominic Adomah Ameyaw, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has pledged the Assembly’s commitment to complete the abandoned Nana Akosua Nsuaah I Market project initiated under the previous administration.
The market project was started by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the World Bank-funded Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region, Mr Ameyaw said the project was about 95 per cent complete and assured traders that the Assembly would facilitate its completion and eventual handing over.
He said work on the Dormaa-Ahenkro 24-hour market project was also progressing steadily, adding that the facility would provide adequate space to accommodate traders and market women in the municipality.
Mr Ameyaw assured traders currently operating at the temporary market site near the Nana Agyemang Badu I Sports Stadium that they would be allocated spaces in the completed markets to continue their businesses.
“The idea to complete the Nana Nsuaah I and the 24-hour market projects to bring all the traders and market women at a particular location and thereby make it more convenient for buyers and to spur rapid economic growth and development,” he stated.
The MCE indicated that the Assembly, with support from key stakeholders, had addressed concerns regarding alleged double allocations of trading spaces at the temporary market site.
He also expressed concern about the indiscriminate dumping of refuse around the Nana Akosua Nsuaah I Market project site and urged residents to desist from the practice.
Mr Ameyaw warned that persons found engaging in littering would be sanctioned in accordance with the Assembly’s sanitation regulations.
He noted that poor sanitation undermined efforts by the Dormaa Traditional Council and the Municipal Assembly to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
“Littering around clearly undermines and sabotages efforts of Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu I, Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area and the Municipal Assembly to promote good sanitation and healthy society,” Mr Ameyaw stated.Â
