Pianim hails Fidelity Bank’s leadership, governance and succession plan

Accra, Sept. 2, GNA – Mr Kwame Pianim, an economist and investment expert, has commended the leadership, governance and succession plan of Fidelity Bank, Ghana’s largest privately‑owned bank.

He said the Bank represented the homegrown ownership the country needed to sustain economic recovery and build a resilient capital market.

Mr Pianim made the remarks at the Debt Capital Markets Conference in Accra, organised by Fidelity Bank.

It was held under the theme “Lower Rates, Higher Opportunity: Unlocking Growth Through the Debt Capital Markets.”

Reflecting on Ghana’s economic cycles over five decades, Mr Pianim cautioned against complacency, urging fiscal discipline and stronger institutions to sustain the country’s positive transition.

He noted that orderly leadership transition, honesty and prudent management demonstrated institutional maturity and gave investors confidence, enabling businesses to honour obligations over the long term.

“Honesty, good management, and making sure that whatever you are doing, you are going to have a good succession plan like Fidelity Bank has done, the transition from the founders of the bank to a new generation,” he said.

Mr Pianim stressed the importance of Ghanaian ownership in the financial sector, adding that the country must strengthen domestic sources of capital.

“If we strengthen the structures, the sources, and make sure that all these financial institutions are significantly owned, like Fidelity Bank, by Ghanaians, then we are on the right path, and then we will be dancing to our inner tune, not to others’ tune,” he said.

The conference brought together institutional investors and market leaders to highlight issues including Ghana’s recovery into lasting, productive growth.
