Tema, May 21, GNA-Nii Adjetey Agbo II, the Mankralo of Tema, and acting President of the Tema Traditional Council, has called on the new Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) to tackle drug abuse among the youth.

Nii Agbo expressed worry at the abuse of tramadol and other notable painkillers popularly known as Red, as well as the use of marijuana among the youth in the area, especially in Tema Manhean.

He said this when Ms Ebi Bright, the newly appointed Tema MCE, paid a working visit to the Traditional Council to officially introduce herself to them after her confirmation and seek their blessings.

He lamented that, “the youth here are taking red, alcohol, and wee; and you will see them in town sleeping while standing. This is very worrying.”

Nii Agbo said, as the head of the Metropolitan Security Council, the MCE should ensure that the Police crackdown on drug peddlers and safe havens for such activities in Tema Manhean.

“If we don’t rise up and work together to save the situation, what will happen to the future generation? Some did their bit before us, and we must also protect the interests of the youth for the future,” he stated.

He gave the assurance that the traditional leaders would do their best to apprehend drug peddlers and drug abusers in the area, adding that when they hand them over to the Police, they expect that such persons would be made to face the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

He also called on the people and those in authority to unite to ensure peace and progress in the town, noting that they want progress and therefore do not need any divisions or factions to derail them.
