Kumasi, May 14, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three armed robbers who have been terrorising residents of the Kenyasi community in the Kwabre East District.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo of the Public Affairs Unit, briefing the media at the Regional Police Headquarters on Wednesday, disclosed that the suspects Umar Issah, 26, Sherif Mohammed, 20, and Abdul Jalelu, 19 were apprehended on Thursday, May 8, following a daylight robbery in Kenyasi.
According to the police, the suspects, each riding a separate motorbike, robbed two individuals of their mobile phones around 1:00 p.m. and attempted to flee.
However, the Kenyasi Police Patrol Team, acting swiftly on intelligence, intercepted and arrested them shortly after the incident.


During the pursuit, Sherif Mohammed sustained a gunshot wound to the right rib, while the other two suspects also suffered various injuries.
All three are currently receiving medical treatment under tight security at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Recovered from the suspects were the stolen mobile phones and the motorbikes used in the robbery, which are being held as evidence pending further investigations.
In a separate operation, the Airport District Police Command arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Adam Mohamed, for alleged involvement in the illegal trade of narcotic substances.
The arrest occurred on Saturday, May 10, 2025, around 22:00 hours during a targeted police operation in Aboabo No. 1 aimed at curbing narcotics trafficking in the area.
During a search of the suspect’s premises, officers recovered significant quantities of controlled drugs, including 35 packs of 250mg Tramadol, 28 packs of 120mg Tramadol, 11 packs of 225mg Tramadol.
Additionally, police retrieved GHS 66,950.00 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
The suspect remains in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations with all exhibits securely stored as part of the evidence for legal proceedings.
Fugitive in 2016 Police Murder Finally Captured
In another breakthrough, the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has arrested Michael Owusu Ansah, also known as Baby Last, who had been on the run since 2016 for the murder of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel during a robbery at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso.
According to DSP Ahianyo, Owusu Ansah has confessed to multiple robberies in Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, and Asuoyeboah.
His arrest led to the apprehension of four additional suspects -Emmanuel Owusu, alias Cassidy, Maxwell Gyimah, alias Nana Kwame, Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah, alias The Man Sudais, Rhano Okyere, alias Demon


A fifth accomplice, identified only as Abedi, remains at large.
The suspects were arraigned before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13 and were remanded into custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for June 4, 2025.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended the professionalism and vigilance of its officers and urged the public to continue supporting efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
