Ghana Muslim Mission Holds Inaugural Young Muslims Empowerment Camp

By Jibril Abdul Mumuni

Accra, April 22, GNA – The Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) Women Fellowship, in collaboration with the mission’s youth wing, has organised its first-ever Young Muslim Empowerment Camp in Accra.

The camp is aimed at equipping the youth within the GMM with spiritual, intellectual, and leadership skills for the future.

The event, held under the theme “Building an Empowered and Responsible Muslim Youth for the Future of the Ghana Muslim Mission,” sought to counter the declining participation of young members aged 10 to 35 in the mission’s activities.

The camp featured a series of capacity-building sessions, including workshops on the history and values of the GMM, public speaking and self-esteem, skills training in batik making, CCTV installation, and social marketing.

It also incorporated sessions on personal grooming and hygiene, physical exercises, and team-building games.

Speaking at the opening of the Camp, Dr. Rabiatu Deinyo Ammah Koney, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, highlighted the profound impact of the Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) on the development and lives of young people.

She noted that many successful individuals in Ghanaian society owe their achievements to the disciplined upbringing and strong values instilled by the GMM.

Dr. Koney said that the Mission’s influence went beyond religious teachings.

It fostered a deep sense of responsibility, ethical behavior, and community service.

These attributes, she explained, empower young members to excel and contribute meaningfully to society.

Dr. Koney linked the values promoted by the GMM to core Islamic principles, stressing the importance of conscious moral decision-making and the duty to embody goodness as representatives of Allah on earth.

She urged the youth present to recognize their potential and draw motivation from the achievements of past members who were nurtured by the same Mission.

“What everybody at the GMM did then, is what has made you who you are today,” she remarked.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Botchway, member, Greater Accra Regional Imam’s Council underscored the vital role of Muslim youth in actively living out and promoting the values of the GMM.

He reminded the audience that being Muslim was not just a label but a responsibility to be ‘Muslims in action’—demonstrating Islamic values through speech, social conduct, and professional dealings.

In doing so, he said, they serve as trustworthy ambassadors of their faith and the Mission’s teachings.

He called on the youth to fully embrace the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in all facets of life, from personal appearance to daily behaviour.

Officials noted that the maiden edition of the camp was designed to cultivate a new generation of Ghana Muslim Mission youth—spiritually grounded, intellectually empowered, and socially responsible.

They described the camp as a manifestation of a shared commitment to invest in the growth of future leaders and change-makers. It represents a call to action: to educate, inspire, and nurture the vast potential within the youth.

The maiden edition of the Camp was envisioned as a platform to shape a new generation of GMM youth—spiritually grounded, intellectually empowered, and socially responsible.
