Nsuta-Jasikan (O/R), March 21, GNA – The Nkwanta South Municipality is grappling with security challenges that are severely impacting healthcare delivery in the region.
These challenges, which have been ongoing for some time, have taken a dire turn with the recent clashes in January, resulting in the tragic loss of the life of a health worker and IT Manager.
Dr.Osei Kuffour Afreh, The Oti Regional Director of Health Services, said the incident has instilled fear among health workers, making them hesitant to venture out and provide essential healthcare services.
Speaking during the 2024 annual performance review meeting, he emphasized that the attack on a health department vehicle, which was left with thirty bullet holes, has further exacerbated the situation.
Dr Afreh explained that the security challenges in the Nkwanta South Municipality are having far-reaching consequences, which include compromised healthcare delivery, disrupted outreach services and regional impact.
The security challenges in the Nkwanta South Municipality are also affecting the overall performance of health services in the Oti region.
Urgent attention is required to address the security concerns and ensure the safety of health workers, enabling them to provide essential healthcare services to the community.
