Kumbungu (N/R), March 13, GNA — In a significant move to promote literacy and improve learning outcomes, School for Life (SfL), a local non-governmental organization (NGO), in collaboration with Book Aid International, a UK-based
organization, has donated 2,215 books to selected basic schools in the Northern Region
The donation, which included textbooks, novels, storybooks, phonics materials, and play kits, is part of the organizations’ ongoing efforts to strengthen education in underserved communities.
The beneficiary schools were drawn from the Savelugu, Nanton, and Kumbungu Districts, including Yoo Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS), Nanton Model Girls JHS, Kumbungu D/A JHS Block A, and Dalun Roman Catholic Primary School.

Kumbungu D/A JHS received 715 books, Dalun R/C Primary: 600, Yoo R/C JHS: 520 and Nanton Model Girls JHS: 380 books.
This follows a similar donation made to the Tamale College of Education and Tolon Senior High School just last month, reflecting the long-term commitment of both organizations to supporting education in the region.
Speaking during the donation in Kumbungu, Mr Abdul-Hakim Zakaria, Field Supervisor at SfL, highlighted the importance of the initiative in bridging the resource gap in rural schools.
“We believe that every child deserves access to quality learning materials. These books will not only enhance teaching and learning but also inspire students to cultivate a lifelong love for reading,” he said.
Mr Zakaria urged school authorities to take good care of the books, emphasizing that preserving the materials would ensure that other students benefit from the donation.
Mr Matthew Alade, Headmaster of Yoo R/C JHS, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely support, noting that the school had recently built a library and lacked learning materials, including books.
“These books will fill our empty shelves and turn the space into a vibrant learning hub for our students, with access to this wealth of knowledge, we can foster a culture of reading that will improve academic performance,” he stated.

Madam Fuseini Ruhaina, Headmistress of Nanton Model Girls JHS, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing how the books would better prepare students for academic competitions and boost their confidence.
“We are so thankful for this support. It gives our students the tools they need to excel. When School for Life organizes its reading competitions, I am confident our girls will be ready to compete with the best,” she said.
