Nwodua (N/R), March 14, GNA – The Centre for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID), a non-government organisation (NGO) has cut sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for the Nwodua Basic School in the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region.
The project, estimated at GHc1,316,120.00, is expected to be completed within 10 months, and would include the construction of a staff common room, an ICT centre, and other essential facilities creating a well-rounded learning environment for approximately 210 children from Nwodua and other nearby communities.
It is funded by the Embassy of Japan in Ghana under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGHSP), and implemented by CALID, an NGO dedicated to improving education quality in the Northern Region.
Mr. Mohammed Awal Sumani Bapio, Executive Director of CALID, speaking during the sod cutting ceremony at Nwodua, described the project as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the community.
He said: “We believe this project will bring joy to the people of Nwodua, enhance their well-being, and create an environment where every child feels safe, valued, and motivated to learn.”


As part of the partnership, traditional authorities at Nwodua donated land for the project while the District Assembly will provide additional facilities.
The Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders will supply teachers and ICT equipment to support effective teaching and learning.
Mr. Yahaya Sulemana, Kumbungu District Director of Education, expressed gratitude for the initiative saying, “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Embassy of Japan and CALID to enhance quality teaching and learning outcomes in our district.”
He commended the CALID and the Embassy of Japan for their support and emphasised that the new facility would inspire local children to take greater interest in their education and inspire them to become responsible citizens.
