Unemployed gets six years in hard labour for stealing motorbike

Jasikan (O/R), Feb. 6, GNA – Wisdom Amewuame, an unemployed has been sentenced to six years in prison in hard labour for stealing a motorbike belonging to a farmer in Kwamekrom of the Oti Region.

Amewuame pleaded guilty and for leniency to the charges of unlawful entry and stealing, when he appeared before the Jasikan Circuit Court.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo reminded the Court presided over by Mr Lambert Keriga, that the convict just returned from prison for a similar offence and pleaded with the court not to deal leniently with him.

Presenting the facts of the case, ASP Kpodo said the complainant was a farmer while the convict was unemployed adding that both lived in Kwamekrom but different suburbs.

He said on December 31, 2024, the complainant left home for church service together with his family to usher in the new year but returned home the next morning only to detect that his Sanya branded motorbike with registration number M-17-VR 1608 was stolen.

ASP Kpodo said the complainant mounted a search within the community and later found the said motorbike damaged and abandoned in a bush.

He said the complainant then lodged a complaint with the Kwamekrom police for assistance adding that the police investigations led to the arrest of the convict at his hideout at Bodada near Jasikan.

ASP Kpodo said the convict in his investigation cautioned statement to the police, admitted the offences.

The presiding judge ordered that the motorbike should be returned to the rightful owner.
