National Education Forum opens in Ho

President Mahama lauds Education Minister for bringing back Parents–Teachers Association

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday lauded Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Education Minister for bringing back Parents Teachers’ Association (PTAs) in the nation’s first and second cycle institutions.

“And I’m happy that the Honorable Education Minister has already announced that PTAs can engage with schools to ensure that the children at the schools are properly managed.”

The President stated in his address when he formally opened the National Education Consultative Forum in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital.

“And so PTAs can start to do their work by engaging with the schools so that we deepen management of the schools.”

It would be recalled that under the previous Akufo-Addo’s administration, the Ghana Education Service (GES) in 2019, suspended the activities of PTAs in schools.

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that education reform is a shared responsibility.

“It is a collective journey that requires all voices, all perspectives and all hands on deck,” the president stated on Tuesday when he formally opened the National Education Consultative Forum in Ho for the Volta and Oti Regions.

The three-day meeting on the theme “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future,” brought together key stakeholders to address pressing challenges in Ghana’s education sector, including infrastructure, quality education, governance, financing, and research.

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his sincere apologies on behalf of the Planning Committee of the National Education Forum to stakeholders of faith-based organizations for the “unpardonable omission” committed in their delayed invitation to the forum.

Speaking at the opening of the National Education Forum in Ho, President Mahama said: “I’m aware that the omission was very speedily remedied, but you still deserve an unqualified apology for this oversight.

“And since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on earth, I’m sure that you are forgiving us for this.

“And we know you are important stakeholders because you own some of the schools, and so this educational forum is important to see how we carry everybody together”, he said.
