Tema, Feb. 19, GNA – Residents of Tema Community One Site 10 were thrown into a state of shock on Wednesday morning when news broke that a 14-year-old girl in the neighbourhood had ended her life.
The reasons for her action are yet to be known; meanwhile, the deceased’s body has since been deposited at the mortuary by the Tema Community One Police.
Mr. Godsway Dzene, the Assemblyman for the Ashiboi Electoral Area, confirming the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the Senior High School (SHS) form two student’s father said she showed no signs of any problem the previous night when she retired to bed.
Mr. Dzene added that according to the family, she woke up at about 05:00 hours, going about her daily household chores when she rushed into the room.
He said after some minutes elapsed and she was not coming out, the family went into the room only to find her hanging dead.
He said information gathered from the father indicated her brother revealed that she would no longer attend school again.
The assembly member expressed worry, noting that she may be having some issues at school, and therefore advised the father to go through her tablet and inform the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide.
He advised parents to be close to their children and create an environment that would encourage their wards to open on issues bothering them.
He said parents must also know their children very well to be able to pick up signs and changes early to avert such incidents.
