Sunyani, (Bono), Jan. 16, GNA – A cross section of the public in the Sunyani Municipality on Thursday said they anticipate the nomination of a development-oriented Regional Minister to push forward the progressive development of the region.
President John Dramani Mahama is yet to nominate a minister to over-see the Bono Region.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, some of the residents expressed regret that the region was lagging in development, underlining the need for the President to make extensive consultation before nominating the minister.
“We need a regional minister who prioritises development more than anything, and understands the dynamics, and also sensitive to the development needs of the region too,” Miss Sheila Quansah, a student, stated.
Mr Abraham Ntow, a public sector worker, called on the President to nominate a well matured, knowledgeable and experienced person “who understands the local government systems and structures.”
“This is not the time for ministerial trials,” he stated, urging the President to nominate a competent person who could manage the affairs of the region effectively.
Opanin Kwasi Kwakye, a pensioner said though politics in the country had evolved with appointments being made mostly on partisan considerations, there was the need for the President to “select competent and development-oriented persons for our region.”
Other residents said they were also optimistic that the President knew better, and he would appoint a minister committed to driving the holistic development of the Bono region.
