Akatsi (V/R), July 16, GNA – The Akatsi South Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has distributed relief items to victims affected by recent floods and rainstorms in parts of the Municipality.

The disasters, triggered by heavy rainfall and strong winds, destroyed properties, damaged residential buildings and disrupted the livelihoods of several residents across affected communities.

Mr Daniel Dagba, the Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive, speaking at the presentation ceremony, assured residents of the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare and security of citizens, especially those affected by disasters.

He urged residents to prioritise safety and ensure that all building projects received the necessary approvals from the Assembly to prevent developments in waterlogged and other disaster-prone areas.

Mr Dagba also called on stakeholders to strengthen efforts towards disaster prevention and community safety within the Municipality.

The beneficiaries, made up of 389 males and 510 females from various communities, received the items through representatives of the affected households.

The relief package included bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, bags of sugar, Wellington boots, blankets, eating plates, drinking cups, basins, mosquito nets and cartons of Aqua Tabs.

Mr Daniel Gidi, Akatsi South Municipal Director of NADMO, told the Ghana News Agency that the items were sourced through support from various organisations and individuals to assist victims of the disasters.

He said part of the support came from the Volta Regional Environmental Health Office and Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways, who donated items to affected constituencies in the Volta Region.

Mr Gidi said additional support was received from the Government through the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and Mr Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

He appealed to affected residents who were yet to receive assistance to remain calm, assuring them that NADMO would ensure a fair and transparent distribution process.

Mr Gidi reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to support disaster victims and strengthen disaster management efforts in the Municipality.
