Police, Fire Service investigate blaze that destroyed ballot box storage

Accra, Dec. 19, GNA – The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service are investigating a fire that destroyed a school laboratory and library, where the Ablekuma North 2024 election ballot boxes were stored. 

In a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Directorate and shared with the Ghana News Agency, the police confirmed that the fire occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools, where the ballot boxes for the Ablekuma North Constituency were kept. 

The statement assured the public that those responsible for the fire would be identified, arrested, and brought to justice.  

The public was also urged to remain calm as investigations into the incident continue. 

Meanwhile, the 132 individuals arrested across the country for alleged post-election disturbances are undergoing legal processes.  

Of the total arrests, 45 suspects have been remanded into custody, 71 are on police enquiry bail, and 16 are out on court bail.
