Accra, Dec.20, GNA — The National Election Security Task Force (NESTF) has assured the Electoral Commission (EC) of its readiness to provide security for the re-collation of results in nine outstanding constituencies.

The constituencies include Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.

The assurance followed a meeting between the NESTF and EC at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday to discuss security arrangements.

In a media briefing on Friday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, confirmed that the EC had expressed readiness to continue the collation process and requested security support from the task force.

“The task force assured the Electoral Commission of its readiness to provide the needed security for the outstanding collations.

“In addition, the Commission reminded the Task Force that during the collation, only individuals accredited by the Commission should be allowed access to the collation centres,” she said.

She said the exercise would see a joint police and military deployment to ensure order and safety at the centres.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi said non-accredited persons would not be permitted at the centres.

She also urged political parties to refrain from inciting their supporters to mass up at the collation centres to disrupt the process.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi reiterated the Task Force’s commitment to prioritising the peace and security of the country throughout the election period and beyond.

“We have put the peace and security of the country first and will continue to do so. We therefore invite the good people of our beloved country, including all stakeholders in this election, to work with us in this endeavour,” she said.
