Denu (V/R), Dec 20, GNA – The National Cross Border Women Traders Association (NCBWTA) is optimistic the incoming government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, will witness a significant progress in women’s economic empowerment.

The Association, aimed at championing the cause of cross border women (who usually trade in goods based on local market demands) said it was excited about Mr Mahama’s victory in the election.

“This is because of his strong track record of supporting women’s economic empowerment and promoting trade facilitation in the region.”

Mr Mahama of the National Democratic Congress won the December 7 Presidential election with 56.55 per cent of the total valid votes, with his closest contender, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, gaining 41.61 per cent.

In a statement by the Association to congratulate the President-elect, jointly signed by Madam Rose Lucky Xenordzi and Mr Oscar Akaba-Norvixoxo, President and National Coordinator, respectively, the Association said it was happy with the comeback of the former President.

‘‘We are thrilled that President Mahama, a renowned champion of regional integration and economic development, has been entrusted with this critical leadership role.”

His vision, experience, and commitment to promoting economic growth and development in Ghana, especially his plan for women empowerment and development, were commendable, the statement said.

“We are confident that under President Mahama’s leadership, the Women Development Bank and women trade facilitation across the region will witness significant progress in promoting economic integration, trade facilitation, and women’s economic empowerment,” the statement said.

“Once again, we congratulate President Mahama on his election and wish him success in his new role.”
