Axim (WR) Dec. 9, GNA- Mr Kofi Arko Nokoe, the Member of Parliament-elect for the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira constituency made history when he was re-elected as the MP for the area.
The Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituency is noted as a swing constituency with MPs unable to go beyond a four-year term in power, but Mr Nokoe was able to break the chain last Saturday.
Mr Kofi Nokoe polled 16,4019 to beat Madam Catherine Afeku of the NPP who polled 14050 votes, while Prophet Elisha Joshua Kabenla an independent candidate secured 429 votes.
In 1992, Mr Charles Henry won the seat for the NDC, in 1996 Mr Kojo Armah secured the seat for the CPP, while in 2000 Madam Edith Haizel of the NDC won the seat.
In 2004, Mr Kojo Armah of the CPP made a comeback, while in 2008 Madam Catherine Afeku of the NPP took the seat, in 2012 Tanikyi Jessie of the NDC won the seat and in 2016 Madam Catherine Afeku made a comeback.
In 2020, Mr Kofi Arko Nokoe won the seat for the NDC and retained it in 2024.
In his victory speech, Mr Nokoe said now that the election was over, they should close their ranks and fight for the development of the area.
He urged the residents to live in peace and harmony with each other for the growth and development of the constituency.
Mr Annor Kofi the NDC constituency Chairman thanked the party members and sympathisers for their support and assured them of the development in the constituency.
He also commended the security agencies, EC and the various party agents for their commitment to duty.
