Twenty-six special students to write BECE in the Volta region

Ho, May 16, GNA – Seventeen hearing and nine visually impaired candidates will be among 29,888 candidates to write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Volta region next month.

The hearing-impaired candidates are made up of seven boys and 10 girls, while the visually impaired candidates are made up of four boys and five girls.

Mr. Francis Yaw Agbemadi, Volta Regional Director of Education, Friday disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Ho.

He stated that the 29,888 candidates were made up of 15,083 boys and 14,805 girls.

Mr. Agbemadi continued that out of the number, 24,943 of the candidates were from 902 public schools whilst 4,945 were from 300 private schools.

He said the examination would be written at 115 Centres across the region.

The Director said Ketu South had the highest number of candidates with 4168 followed by Ho Municipal with 3361 candidates.

He noted that South Tongu had 2330 candidates, North Tongu, 2205, Hohoe Municipal, 1994, Ketu North, 1921, Ho West, 1546 and Anloga, 1544.

The others Mr. Agbemadi stated were Keta Municipal, 1498, Central Tongu, 1494, Akatsi South, 1474, Kpando Municipal, 1210 Afadzato South, 1189 and South Dayi, 1044.

He said the rest were Agortime/Ziope, 900, North Dayi, 795, Adaklu, 678 and Akatsi North, 537.

Mr. Agbemadi told the GNA that 9779 of the candidates made up of 4868 boys and 4911 girls would be writing the French paper during the examination.

He called on teachers to prepare the students well for the examination and also asked the candidates not to rely on external assistance during the examination.

Mr. Agbemadi appealed to them to make their books their best friends, especially from now up to the time of the examination.

He cautioned them to refrain from sending foreign materials to the examination rooms, reminding them that “the weight of the law would be applied if you are caught.”
