Accra, Dec. 23, GNA- The Scouts and Guides Fellowship Ghana (SGFG) has rewarded its members for an outstanding participation and unwavering commitment towards its 2024 Peace Walk campaign ahead of the General election.
The walk, dubbed: “Ghana Walk for Peace”, witnessed more than five thousand (5,000) members and volunteers walk from the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra, on a seven-day journey during which they spread messages of peace to the various communities along the route.
The walk culminated in the presentation of a Peace Torch from Otumfuo to the Ga Mantse.
Dr Albert Tetteh Botchway, Board Member of SGFG, said the award was to honour the youth who dedicated their lives and time to serve Ghana and encourage a bigger participation in the near future.
“We planned to train five thousand youth next year with the ultra-modern Centre we intend to build and we believe with this training, there will be a lot of changes in the country with the good and patriotic citizens we would produce,” he said.
He bemoaned the lack of support from government recently, saying that worsened their financial challenges and as a result their ability to train the youth to become volunteers and patriotic citizens for national development.
Mr Andrew Botchwey, President of the International Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana Chapter, therefore, appealed to government and corporate entities to go to their aid in that regard, adding: “We believe that with the support of government, we will achieve our goal.”
He explained that the main objective of the Fellowship was to train the youth to become good citizens in a constructive society.
The award categories were Best Scout and Guide (2024), Best Hikers, Best Disciplined, Best Group Leader, Best Region, Best Commissioner, Best Youth Organizer, Best Dressed Personality, Best Volunteers and Best Active Group.
