Election 2024: Media, political parties must not announce results – NCCE

By Benjamin A. Commey

Accra, Dec 07, GNA – Ms Kathleen Addy, Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has cautioned political parties and the media to desist from announcing the results of the 2024 elections.

She said that was the sole responsibility of the Electoral Commission (EC) and must be respected by all.

“The results will be declared by the Electoral Commission and that is what we will go by. That is what we have done over the years and that is what we will do today, so even if you have also collated results and all that please, don’t be tempted to announce it.

“Let’s try and do this exercise as calmly and peacefully as possible and let us stay within the law,” the NCCE Chairperson cautioned.

She issued the warning when she monitored the voting process in the Odododiodioo Constituency.

Ms Addy commended constituents and officials of the EC for ensuring a smooth process so far, describing it as “peaceful”.

She called on eligible voters to go out and vote, urging them to do that in a peaceful manner.

Additionally, she urged Ghanaians to keep an open mind, knowing that only one will emerge winner at the end of the process.

“At the end of the day, look, there is going to be only one winner and quite a few losers. We don’t sit down and assume the candidate we like has automatically won when the ballots have not been counted.

“So, please, just keep an open mind. Your choice could be the ones who will win but it is very possible that your candidate could be the one who will lose. Whatever the outcome, just remember that we have just this one Ghana and nobody should go into violence or fight just to ensure that their candidate will win,” Ms Addy advised.

Most voting centres in the constituency (Odododiodioo) was empty as at the time the GNA left the constituency at 1230 hours.

The atmosphere within the constituency was calm with residents going about their normal duties.

Four people are vying for the parliamentary slot in the constituency.

They are Alfred Kotey Ashie of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul Manaf Sowah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred

Anettey Abbey of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Richard Dzatei Abbey of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Currently, the seat is held by Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye of the NDC.
