Cape Coast, Feb 18, GNA – The Government has called on Africans in living in the Diaspora to join in the celebration of Ghana’s 65th Independence Day whilst investing in the Central Region.
Mr Laud Commey, Chairman of the National Planning Committee made the call at a press briefing in Cape Coast to present the itinerary for the celebration.
Key activities are National flag hoisting day on Tuesday, March 01, President Independence day awards for school children, on Wednesday March 02 and Thursday, March 03, wear Ghana day.
Also, on Saturday, March 05 there will be re-enactment of declaration of Independence to be crowned by the Anniversary parade on Sunday, March 06 at Cape Coast sports stadium.
He urged the people to take advantage of the opportunity and avenues available in the Region to help boost tourism in the area which is referred to as the ‘tourism heartbeat’ of Ghana to turn around the socio-economic development of the country.
The Ancient City of Cape Coast, the Central Regional Capital, has been billed to host this year’s national celebration on the theme; “Working together, bouncing back better.”
It will be the third Region after…… to host the event outside Accra.
Mr Commey stated that the devastating effects of COVID-19 had struck many economies across the globe and Ghana was no exception, adding that there was the need to collaborate and work effectively to move the economy forward.
He appealed to the Public to actively participate in the upcoming celebration, be proud of the country and support all activities in place to ensure economic recovery.
The Chairman urged Ghanaians to promote made in Ghana products, wear Ghana, while contributing their quota towards the developmental agenda of the country.
On the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative, he explained that the extra- ordinary industrialization drive of the President was to create more jobs to help bridge the unemployment gap among the youth.
He said the Ekumfi Fruit Juice Factory was a clear evidence of the success story of the initiative and applauded the President for the boost in the business sector which was improving lives of the citizenry in the country.
Mr Commey encouraged the media to step up publicity on the celebration to get the populace well informed on essence of the celebration for them to take advantage and fully get involved to ensure the local economy received a major boost as expected by the President for rotating the celebration across the country.
Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister assured the President that the Region was fully prepared and ready to celebrate the historic day.
She revealed that all hostels, guest houses in the Regional Capital, had been booked ahead of the celebration and assured traders and drivers of increased patronage.
